FAQ
Frequently Asked
Questions
Everything you need to know about DAS — Distributed Acoustic Sensing.
What is DAS and how does it work?+−
Distributed Acoustic Sensing uses an optical fibre cable as a continuous array of microphones. Vibrations from footsteps, digging, or cutting cause tiny distortions in laser light travelling through the fibre, which the processing unit detects and locates.
What types of threats can DAS detect?+−
DAS can detect and classify walking, running, digging, cutting, vehicle movement, and structural impacts along the sensing perimeter.
How accurate is the location of detected events?+−
Depending on the system, events can be located to within 5–20 metres along the sensing cable, enabling rapid response to the precise location.
Is DAS suitable for government and military applications?+−
Yes. DAS is extensively used for border security, military base perimeters, pipeline monitoring, and critical infrastructure protection. As a PEC-registered firm, we can support such projects.
